POMELO * HONEYCOMB * OYSTER SHELL
Deep in the ravine on the hillside of Arrowhead Mountain that extends beyond the Hacienda lie the two plots that make up our Estate Hillside Riesling. Planted in 2016, the site is blessed with well-draining fluffy volcanic tuff and fine sandy loam, interspersed with rhyolite stones. The southeast-facing exposure for these blocks provides cool morning sun while limiting hot afternoon exposure; giving way to the soothing Pacific Ocean breezes that cool the vines throughout the day–resulting in greater phenolic ripeness and deeper flavor development.
The 2024 vintage marks the first time we've bottled these tiny blocks separately. The dry wine possesses a distinctive density and texture–a notable honeycomb quality that often precedes the ethereal petrol character that Riesling can develop with age–alongside fresh pomelo notes and the salty, energetic quality characteristic of all Scribe Estate wines.
