In 1858, Emil Dresel brought the first Riesling cuttings to America and planted them on what is now the SCRIBE Estate in Sonoma, CA. In homage we planted two acres in 2007 on the southwest facing slope of Arrowhead Mountain with an additional expansion in 2016 bringing our total acreage just shy of four acres.
After more than a decade of growing Riesling on the SCRIBE Estate, we have come to understand how to balance this noble grap's sometimes generous spirit and capture its higher tones and fresh characteristics. Our Riesling is dry – with 0.0 grams of residual sugar – which gives center stage to the pleasures of its unique minerality and evocative floral and stone fruit aromatics. This wine is alive and humming with vibrant acidity and deeply perfumed in the uniquely delicate way only Riesling can be.
2022 meteorological data: A warm winter with below-average rainfall and a cool start to spring kept the vines dormant late into March. Spring remained cool and brought moderate amounts of rain all the way to Memorial Day, keeping shoot growth fairly slow until early June. Mild summer weather contributed to slow fruit development until warmer August temperatures prevailed, pushing grapes to maturity quickly. Harvest began on August 9th with favorable, temperate weather throughout the picking season.
