We are one of only a few U.S. producers of Sylvaner, a native German white wine varietal originally planted in 1858 by the Dresel Brothers on what is now the Scribe Estate. Today, one acre of Sylvaner vines grow alongside Riesling, in Huichica loam along the base of Arrowhead Slope and into the calcium-rich, volcanic tuff in the flats. Fermented in stainless steel tanks and aged without any oak contact to preserve and pronounce the wine’s energy and freshness.
2017 meteorological data: Record-breaking winter rains, a mild spring and multiple heat waves near the end of the growing season kicked off an early start to a fast-paced harvest.
soil type: Huichica loam, volcanic tuff
